So you’ve heard the words DAO and Bounty (The Coconut One 🥥 😋 like Mars and Snickers 🤔😁) flying around and thought, “Am I supposed to know what this means already?” Don’t worry, you’re not late to the party... Let’s break it down in plain language, with some tips on how to actually use these tools if you’re a designer, researcher, media person, founder, or anyone creative trying to build your Web3 proof of work.

DAOs, Bounties, and Building Your Web3 Portfolio (Without Losing Your Mind)...

1. First let's know What on Earth is a DAO?

DAO stands for Decentralised Autonomous Organisation. Sounds fancy, but think of it like this:

  • It’s an online co-op or club with a shared bank account (called wallet).

  • Instead of a boss calling the shots, members vote on what to do.

  • Those votes happen using tokens, which act like shares.

  • Rules are coded into the blockchain, so things are transparent and hard to mess with.

In practice, DAOs come together to fund start-ups, manage communities, support creative projects, you name it. They’re basically internet-native organisations where power is shared instead of top-down.

2. Wallets in Plain English (without jargon).

If you’re new to Web3, you’ll hear a lot about wallets. A wallet is basically your account for holding crypto or tokens. Traditionally, you’d need to create your own wallet (for example, with Phantom on Solana) and connect it to different platforms. But some platforms now create an embedded wallet (like Earn.Superteam) for you automatically when you sign up, so you don’t have to set anything up yourself. Rewards from bounties or DAOs often go straight into that wallet, and from there you can transfer them to your personal wallet if you prefer to manage your own keys. Think of it as getting paid into a work account first, and then moving the funds into your personal account.

3. Why Bounties Matters If You’re a Creative Leader or Founder?

If you’re in design, research, media, or running your own start-up, bounties and DAOs are golden opportunities. And when I say creative, I mean a wide spectrum:

  1. Visual Communication Designers

  2. Web Graphic Digital Designers

  3. UX/UI Designers

  4. CX/UX Researchers

  5. GTM Strategic Growth Leads

  6. Illustrators

  7. Artists

  8. VR/AR/MX Creators

  9. Creative Writers

  10. Digital & Social Media Content Creators

  11. Founders & Innovators

  12. Community Builders

  13. AI Ethics Researchers

  14. Web3 Advocate and really anyone who plays in this field.

For all of you, bounties and DAOs offer:

  • Portfolio power: Show real work for real Web3 projects.

  • Visibility: Your submissions circulate in communities with thousands of members.

  • Access: Even non-winning entries can lead to freelance gigs, collaborations, or advisory roles.

  • Learning: Watching how DAOs set challenges teaches you what this space values.

4. How to Pick the Right Bounty

Not all bounties are worth your time. Here’s how to be smart about it:

  1. Play to your strengths: Go for design, storytelling, or research bounties where you shine.

  2. Check the community size: Bigger DAOs mean more exposure.

  3. Look at reward vs effort: £50 split across 50 people? Meh. £1,000+ for a solid piece of work? Much better.

  4. Think portfolio first: Even if you don’t win, the work is content for your LinkedIn or pitch deck.

  5. Treat it as research: Every bounty you do is also insight for your own founder journey.

5. Practical Next Steps

  • Start small: Pick 1–2 bounties that excite you and commit to them.

  • Repurpose your work: Use your submission as a case study, social post, or pitch material.

  • Document your journey: Share what you’re learning on Twitter or LinkedIn.

  • Network intentionally: After you submit, reach out to organisers. Many freelancers get hired this way.

6. The Big Picture

DAOs are the communities funding and managing projects. Bounties are the way they get work done. For creatives and founders, they’re not just about the prize money, they’re about building your proof of work, expanding your network, and planting flags in the Web3 ecosystem.

So next time you see a bounty pop up, don’t just ask, “What’s the reward?” Ask, “What could this do for my portfolio, my network, and my start-up vision?” That’s where the real value is.

Web3 is about being invited because you show up, you contribute, and you build. You let your active, authentic work speak louder than your CV, cover letters, and job applications...
